Out Of The Ordinary UK Line up

20 09 2009

Out of the Ordinary, the East Sussex eco-conscious, family-friendly festival that coincides with the September 2009 autumn equinox, is announcing the line-up that will be appearing on its three music stages, featuring a truly eclectic mix of world-class music ranging from folk to 80s chart-topping electro-pop, with virtually every other music style imaginable along the way.

Names particularly worth watching include psy trance acts Eat Static, Zub Zub and Celt Islam, and other hotly tipped artists such as The Dolmen, the sonic wizardy of Banco De Gaia and some blistering ska and dub from festival favourites, King Porta Stomp. There is also a chance to travel back to the 80s with the acclaimed M – Pop Music (‘talk about …’).

Like all seven areas of the festival, the Out of the Ordinary music arena is named after one of the seven chakras – the throat chakra, represented by the colour blue – and features two outdoor stages – the Ootopia Stage and the Peace Stage – as well as the indoor Euphoria Bar. The full-line-up for the outdoor stages is listed below, while the Euphoria bar hosts Brighton’s own Slackers Convention and Play group.

The throat chakra music arena is staged by Sean Creed, White Hart Productions and Urban Sedated Fair Trade Music, as well as Out of the Ordinary. Live music plays till 11pm and DJ sets until 1am. The Euphoria Bar is open to 11pm, complimenting the music with local organic ales, ciders and spirits. Aiming for a zero-carbon impact, the stages and Euphoria bar are powered by solar panels, wind generators and pure plant oil.

Speaking from the festival site, where stage-building is well under way, festival director Stuart Mason said: “Out of the Ordinary is all about the vibe, which starts with fantastic music. This year we’ve gone out of our way to cater for every possible taste, from blues to breakbeat, rock to reggae and folk to funk, psy, trance, dub, ska and virtually everything else acoustic and electric that western and world music can offer.”

The full line-up of confirmed acts includes:-
Eat Static, The Dolmen, Banco De Gaia, Celt Islam, The Sysiphians, Turiya, Ten Ton Tongue, Subsource, King Porta Stomp, The Bobby McGees, Eugene Machine, Victoria Burke, Jenny Stanley, Wob, Honky Dub, Pog, The Fork Handles, Judge Trev, Bernice Mc Donald, Bruise, The Special K’s, Project Mayhem, Kovak, Unity & Division, The Pentacle Drummers, Brighton Barulho, Ocean Reid, The Laylanas, Sandy Yidaki, Zub Zub, Brighton Jams, Free Peace, Gaia, Lee Harris meets River Styx, Maya, Meri, New Rising, Vaughan King, Weird Sleeping Kittens, Wide Eyed Order, Wobbly Squadron, Yearnerbabies, Tribal Vibe Management, Slackers Convention, Playgroup. More may be added.

Notes for editors
Out of the Ordinary is a green, family-friendly festival set in the heart of Sussex and timed – over the three days of September 18-20, 2009 – to culminate in a celebration of the Autumn equinox sunrise. This is its third year.

It has seven separate arenas named for the seven chakras, offering not only plenty of live music on multiple stages but speakers, mystery schooling, healing, a family arena and a circus arena. At its heart is a modern stone circle that is being built as a working observatory and aligned to the equinox sunrise.

The festival’s eco-credentials include the powering of its stages and performance bar by solar panels, wind generators and pure plant oil, and a general intent to create as little environmental impact as possible, with compost toilets and a zero waste policy.

The full address is Knockhatch Farm, Hailsham Bypass, Hailsham, BN27 3GD. The gates open from 7.30am on Friday September 18, 2009.
